“Backup, merge and copy your DVDs”

by Nick Mead about DVD2one

DVD2oneX is a simple but effective cross platform DVD copier and backup tool that's both easy to use and fast.

DVD2oneX makes the removal of bonus footage, subtitles and extras on a DVD simple by allowing you to only backup the movie itself. Alternatively, you can make a full backup of an entire DVD in just a few clicks. There's also an option to join two movies on one DVD or even remaster your audio collection to put them on one DVD.

Making a DVD backup simply requires you to select three options from the main menu. You then have to browse to your Disc via Finder and then click the green button to burn. Note that DVD2oneX won't actually burn a disc for you - it will only rip it to your hard drive and then you'll need a third party burning software to burn the contents to another disk.

The interface of DVD2oneX isn't exactly great but it's a small price to pay for what is generally a solid and simple cross platform DVD backup tool.

Pros
  • Allows you to backup, merge and copy DVDs
  • Very quick and easy to use
Cons
  • Poor interface design

Developer's description

With DVD2one you can make movie-only and full disk copies for personal use on a single DVD-Recordable. Remember that making copies of DVDs is illegal if not for backing up for personal use only. Key features of the program include:

  • Unique video compression engine: combines blazing speed with the highest quality.
  • Multi-processor, multi-core and multi-computer (grid) compatible.
  • Process a movie to fit on a single recordable in a matter of 15 to 30 minutes (depending on the speed of your computer).
  • Make movies-only copies. Why waste space and image quality on unnecessary intros, menus and language tracks?
  • Make also full disk copies. For those who want to keep those fancy menus and intros.
  • Powerful join mode. Useful for putting multiple episodes of a (tv) series or joining both sides of a flipper on 1 disk.
  • Remaster your CDs on DVD in Super CD quality.
  • Built-in burn engine.
  • Written from scratch, not based on any old code, libraries or existing opensource projects.
  • Time critical parts written in assembly, for the highest possible speed.
